On the edge of the Sèvre Niortaise, stands one of the most beautiful sets of twin Romanesque dungeons in France and the 1st building of Niort classified as a historical monument. It formed the central reduction of a vast castle in the shape of a quadrilateral 700 m long. It is the king of England, Henry II Plantagenet, who, wanting to put in defense the estates that his wife, Aliénor of Aquitaine brought him by his marriage, decided to rebuild, at the end of the twelfth century, an inexpressible fortress.
