This commemorative plaque commemorates the conquest of the Citadelle by the SDG.
The Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders (SDG) are an infantry regiment of the Primary Reserve of the Canadian Army.
In mid-September 1944, the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, led by the 8th and 9th Canadian Infantry Brigades, was ordered to capture Boulogne-sur-Mer . The operation was codenamed Wellhit .
The SDG soldiers were led into the castle through a secret tunnel by an unknown Boulonnais, surprising the 200 defenders.
