Saint Michael's Church Boulogne-sur-mer

The first church was built in the 11th century , on a site where a Christian place of worship had existed since the 4th century .

The church was dedicated to Saint Michael, the archangel who protected Christians. The current church was built in the 12th century, in Romanesque style. It consists of a nave, a transept and a choir.

In 1863, Abbot Auguste Cazin had the idea of building the Saint-Michel church on land he had bought. The first stone was laid in August 1867, according to plans by Bouloch, an architect from Boulogne. The church was blessed on 29 September 1868 and consecrated on 17 August 1876. On Holy Thursday 1892, a fire destroyed the furnishings and damaged the church. The Hesden architect Clovis Normand supervised the restoration work. The new building was consecrated on 16 October 1892. The bell tower was built in 1955 according to plans by the Boulonnais architect Dujardin.
