The Saint-Rémi church is located on Rue de l'Église in Charleville-Mézières, in the Ardennes department. A first project by Gautiez in a neo-Gothic style, initially approved by the committee of general inspectors in 1856, was ultimately rejected. It was in the 1860s that the Saint-Rémi church was built, according to plans by the diocesan architect Jean François Racine, on the site of the former chapel of the grand priory of the Christian militia, founded by Charles de Gonzague and his wife. The building, in a neo-Romanesque style, was completed in 1863.
