The Milard Tower was built when the city wall was rebuilt after the siege of 1521, following the example of those of Langres or Mouzon.
With a diameter of 27 metres, it encloses a tower of the original 13th century wall , the Tour de la Bobresse, with a diameter of 9 metres, which can be seen from inside the tower . The Tour de la Bobresse is the only remnant of the original wall.
The Tour Milard is a gun tower which today still belongs to the army , in particular to the 3rd Genie, a regiment which is still present in Mézières.
