Description by the author

The ponds of Bresse have been created and exploited by man since the Middle Ages. Alternately dried up or in water, the ponds and their ecosystems evolve with the seasons and give life to the landscape.

At the post "Maison des étangs", in Sergenaux, go along the D212 on the right side of the road (direction "Les Renardeuves")

Before the center of the village, turn left onto the Chemin du Grand-Bois. At the post "Les Renardeuves", turn right.

At the post " L'Alambic ", take the D3 to the right (direction " L'Étang Gros "). At the traffic lights, turn left towards the Etang Neuf. At the crossroads, turn right, go straight up and along the right side of the Cude pond. (Remains of the Grand étang today dried up: on the right, a small pond nestled in the wood, and behind it, an old feudal mound dominated by the manor visible in good weather)

At the "Étang Gros" post, climb to the left of the dike overlooking the pond and continue towards "Champmaux" along the trail (you can hear the cry of the coot and the "laughing" trill of the great crested grebe, called the pond clown; the beech trees with their light trunks in the Champrougier woods gave their name to the town from the Latin "fagus", which became "foyard" and then "fay"). After the power line, it turns left. After the pond, turn left.

At the "Champmaux" post (on the right, the old Salt road), take the road on the left (towards the Alambic), then the D33 on the left for 250m

At the post " L'Alambic ", take on the right the itinerary used on the way to " Les Renardeuves ". On the right, return to the " Maison des Etangs ".

Possibility to extend the itinerary by taking the great path of the Ponds (discovery of more ponds and route on the old railroad linking Chaugey to Lons-le-Saunier (total route of average level 3h15, 12.5km): from the post "Champmaux" take the path on the right and enter the forest. Pass " Étang Thevenon ", cross the D33. Continue towards " Bief Vallon ", reach " La Platière ". The old railroad on the left leads to " Maison des Étangs ".
