At the start of this tour, you can admire the Pavillon Eugénie, named after the Empress. It was built by Viollet-le-Duc in 1857 while he was restoring the Château de Pierrefonds.
You will discover Mont de Saint Pierre-en-Chastres, one of the highest points in the Compiègne forest (137 m), where the Prieuré des Célestins de Saint-Pierre-en-Chastres was founded in 1308. This important monastery was completely walled in and, outside the mountain, possessed the following:
- The six Warin ponds, surrounded by a meadow; now known as the Saint-Pierre ponds.
- The Batigny causeway and ponds, now drained.
- A fishpond and mill at "Vivier Frère Robert", ceded in 1620 by the Augustinians of Royallieu.
The hospitality of the monks was famous, and the "omelette à la célestine" (celestine omelette), made with fine herbs, attracted travelers and local children. The order was abolished in 1777.
