When Peter Gabriel left the successful band Genesis in 1975 without any significant disputes, expectations were high for what the eccentric singer would release as a solo artist. It was a two-year wait for the first album, which was recorded in Toronto. The catchy single 'Solsbury Hill' immediately sounded very different from Genesis. It is an autobiographical song about a spiritual experience at the top of Solsbury Hill. "The song is about letting go, about the willingness to lose what you have, about the longing for what you get in return," said Gabriel.
