Arundo donax or Giant Reed is typical for wetlands. Ovid describes in Metamorphosis the legend of Pan. Pan was in love with the nymphs Syrinx. But Syrinx didn't want him and called her sisters for aid. Pan was not happy about that and transformed them all in a dense stand of reeds as you can find them here. He then cut a number of the tubular stems into different lengths and united them with wax to form the Pipes of Pan.
