The castle of Bracciano, where duke Paolo Giordano II Orsini lived, was the main reason for the detour westward of Queen Christina of Sweden from the Via Lauretana in December 1655. The duke had sent letters and poems to the queen in Stockholm since 1649. In return Christina had promised to meet him during her travel to Rome. The castle can be visited. The memory of Christina is saved by a painted portrait. The duke has a marble bust, in the castle's catalogue attributed to the sculptor Guglielmo Fiammingo. (The most famous Guglielmo Fiammingo lived in the 16th century. By request the castles' conservator mentioned that the attribution concerns a younger Guglielmo Fiammingo. However he isn't sure either if this attribution can stand.)
