The small village of Esch-sur-Sûre - 250 inhabitants - is located on a kind of peninsula surrounded by the Sauer. It is considered one of the most beautiful villages in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It is dominated by a tower stump and some remnants of the medieval castle (927). The rock seems to emerge from the river. For a long time, Esch remained an isolated village. To open it up, a tunnel was drilled in 1850. A second tunnel was dug in 1954 to the dam and the lake. This artificial lake, created for the needs of the water supply, is so integrated into the landscape that it appears as a whim of nature.
