History
The origins date back to the 13th century. The building as we know it today, in Baroque style, dates from 1728 and was restored in 1962.
The castle, which in the mid-19th century was owned by the Belgian noble family d'Olimart, became the property of Julie d'Olimart through her marriage to the Prussian officer Georg-Alvin von Puttkammer (family 1811-1885 beyond). Later, her son Adolf (1847-1925), and in the 20th century one of his sons, Gustav von Puttkamer, lived there. Because he had collaborated with the Nazis, he moved to Wiesbaden towards the end of World War II. He was declared persona non grata by the Luxembourg judiciary, and his assets in Luxembourg, including the Bettendorf castle, were confiscated.
