Geschiedenis
De oorsprong gaat terug tot de 13e eeuw. Het gebouw zoals we het nu kennen, in barokstijl, dateert uit 1728 en werd in 1962 gerestaureerd.
Het kasteel, dat in het midden van de 19e eeuw eigendom was van de Belgische adellijke familie d'Olimart, werd eigendom van Julie d'Olimart door het huwelijk van de Pruisische officier Georg-Alvin von Puttkammer (familie 1811-1885 voorbij). Later woonden haar zoon Adolf (1847-1925), en in de 20e eeuw een van zijn zonen, Gustav von Puttkamer, daar. Omdat hij had gecollaboreerd met de nazi's, ging hij tegen het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog in Wiesbaden wonen. Hij werd door de Luxemburgse rechterlijke macht tot persona non-wenselijk verklaard en zijn bezittingen in Luxemburg, waaronder het kasteel Bettendorf, werden geconfisqueerd.
