The Beukers-Steenwijk canal is the shipping connection between the Meppelerdiep and the Steenwijk-Ossenzijl Canal. Just southeast of the Schutsloterwijde, the canal starts at the Meppelerdiep and then runs in a northwesterly direction to the eastern part of the Belterwijde. Via the fairway on the east side of the Beulakerwijde, the canal runs in a northerly direction past Giethoorn to Steenwijk. The canal from the Meppelerdiep to the Zuideinde of Giethoorn is also called Beukersgracht. Side canals in Giethoorn are the Jan Hozengracht, the Cornelisgracht and the Thijssengracht. Just before the connection with the Steenwijk-Ossenzijl Canal, west of Steenwijk, the Steenwijkerdiep joins the canal.
