The Achterhoek literally lies as a corner on the border with Germany. It is a typical cover sand landscape. Here you will find one of the oldest rocks in the Netherlands in the quarry near Winterswijk. Here, a limestone deposit was once laid down in a tropical sea, better known as the Muschelkalk. And you can also find fossil footprints of dinosaurs here. It is now a hard layer of stone that is used as a building material in this region and far beyond.
