Barony of Breda
The Barony of Breda is rich in forests. Between the trees there are also heaths, fens, old loam pits, peat bogs, streams and grasslands. But the surroundings of Breda were not always so wooded. The primeval forests that once stood here lost out to grazing cattle and humans. From the beginning of the sixteenth century, the Lords of Breda had the Mastbos, Liesbos and Ulvenhoutse Bos laid out. Breda is now surrounded on all sides by green lungs, forest areas where peace and quiet, fresh air and birdsong predominate.
