On the site of the current church, a turfstone church has been present since around the eleventh century, featuring a gabled tower. The tower was remodeled in 1819 into the current spire tower. In 1883, the rest of the old church was demolished and rebuilt. The construction of the new church cost f.7.155,10 (guilders).
