The Corversbos

Description

In 1777, when Gooilust, one of the 's-Graveland country estates, Gerrit Corver Hooft, the last bailiff of the Gooi, received a large part of what would later become the Corversbos on a long lease. There are still a few farms in the forest. Stone tools of the oldest inhabitants of the Gooi, the Neanderthals of about 250,000 years ago, have been found on the fields in the Corversbos. These tools can be admired in the Archaeological Information Centre of the Province of North Holland in Castricum.
