Beautiful Gaasterland was built in 1912 on behalf of the Gaasterland Society by the Hague architect M.J. van der Schilden. He designed the building in a style that incorporates features of the chalet style. In 1925, the villa was purchased by the Utrecht Foundation for Public Health to serve as a holiday colony for children.
