The town hall was built by city carpenter Claes Bockes Balck. The first stone was laid on April 1, 1715, by the three-year-old Willem Karel Hendrik Friso, Prince of Orange and Nassau. The classical three-story building has a facade with 27 windows. Above the door in the central projection, the inscription "Pace et Justitia" is displayed in golden letters. The two statues above the entrance are by Gerbrandus van der Haven. Pieter Nauta created the pediment, featuring the City Maiden, flanked by putti.
