The water tower in Sint Jansklooster was built in 1931-1932 by Waterleiding Maatschappij Overijssel. The water tower has a height of 45.7 meters and a water reservoir of 400 m³. The design of the tower is related to the water towers of Steenwijkerwold and Raalte. In 2011, the tower was handed over by water company Vitens to the non-profit organization BOEi. Architectural firm Zecc made a plan to restore the tower and repurpose it into a watchtower. From four windows the visitor looks out over Steenwijk, Emmeloord, Zwolle and Meppel. The plan is being implemented by contracting company Jurriëns Noord.
