This paved road through the forest is the Defense Road. The road was built in March 1940 by order of the Commander-in-Chief of Land and Sea Forces. Military equipment could thus be moved outside the field of fire of the German troops in the direction of the Grebbeberg. After the war, the Defense Road was a popular place for snow fun for many years, on a sled behind the car. Nowadays, the road appeals to cyclists who seek out the climbs of the ridge.
