Fort Altena was built in 1847 and is part of the New Dutch Water Line. Because strategic locations and weak spots in the line that could not be flooded had to be extra protected, Fort Altena was built here, among other things to be able to close the Breda - Gorinchem road and the Uppelse Dijk. There were never any fights. Since 2003, the fort has been owned by the Brabants Landschap. He made it accessible to visitors and gave it back its old name: Fort Altena.
