The Cachot can be found on the 1st floor of the VVV in Hulst, in the so-called ''s Landshuis''. This stately building dates from the 17th century. Until well into the 18th century, this was the home base of the magistrate of the Hulster Ambacht. It governed the area between the Western Scheldt, the Land of Saeftinghe and the border with the Land of Waas. The magistrate was allowed to make laws, levy taxes and adjudicate on his own subjects. Here you will also find a real 18th-century prison cell. Be sure to check it out: Reynaert himself comes to life digitally here! The fox is combined with an exhibition about historical instruments of torture.
