The Buurserzand with an area of approx. 455 ha.is owned by Natuurmonumenten. It is a remnant of a vast 'wet' heathland. In the past, this heath formed an important part of the esdorpen landscape, of which we still find remnants around the village of Buurse and in the valley of the Buurserbeek.
The Buurserzand is a varied open heathland with fens, flowery grasslands and beautiful deciduous forests. Via the freely accessible foot and cycle paths you will also find drifting sands, juniper bushes, fens and drier oak and birch forests in this largest wet heath vegetation in the Netherlands.
