The Gein is a small river approximately 6 km long between Driemond and Abcoude. It connects the Gaasp and Smal Weesp with the Angstel and runs west of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal entirely within the boundaries of Abcoude, since January 1, 2011, part of the municipality of De Ronde Venen. Until August 1, 1966, the eastern part, beyond the Velterslaan, was however in the former municipality of Weesperkarspel and from 1966 to 1989 in the municipality of Amsterdam. The section within Abcoude up to the Angstel is called, because it is very narrow there, the Nauwe Gein where the Nauwe Gein Bridge connects the Church Square with the Hoogstraat.
