The Catholics in Hedel initially had a St. Willibrord's Church, which in 1571 switched to the Reformed religion, and in 1640 a new church was built on this site.
From 1680 the Catholics could use a barn church that was located on the Molendijk. When the religions were equated in French times, a new church could be built. It was erected on the site of the neerhof of Hedel Castle. In 1802 this church, with presbytery, was inaugurated. This building was destroyed in 1944.
