Originally, the lands on which Sandwijck would later arise were owned by the Oostbroek monastery. After sale to Carel van Utenhove, Lord of Rijnestein, his heirs sold the land to the Van Hattum family in 1644. A farm was built in the 17th century. This eventually came into the possession of Adriana Voet van Winssen by inheritance in 1759. In 1770 she ordered the farm to be replaced by a country house. The park was also laid out in the English landscape style. However, this park was heavily modified in 1833 by Hendrik van Lunteren. In 1788 the heirs of Paul Engelbert sold Voet van Winssen and Adriana van Halm Sandwijck to the Utrecht mint master Johannes Sebastiaan van Namen.
