Hornerheide is the name of a former tuberculosis sanatorium, located northwest of Horn along the main road from Horn to Heythuysen. Hornerheide is situated in a forested area. The sanatorium was established in 1921 by the Limburg Green Cross. The Limburg Green Cross Sanatorium was managed by the Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit from Steyl. In 1926 and 1927, the complex was expanded, including the forest chapel and the Mariapavilion. At that time, it was the Little Sisters of the Holy Joseph who managed the entire facility. In 1934, the sanatorium was transferred to the Roman Catholic foundation Healthy Limburg and the name was changed to Hornerheide. In 1952, further expansion followed, and the Ariën Pavilion and the Poel Pavilion were built. They were connected by open galleries.
