Eiland Bloemendaal is a relatively large uninhabited island in the Zaan. Geographically, since the Municipal Reorganization of the Waterland region in 1990, it falls under the municipality of Zaanstad. The island can only be reached by boat.
The island has been mentioned on local maps for several hundred years. It was purchased by the municipality of Wormerveer in 1930 to establish a landfill there. It was used for that purpose until 1970, after which it was abandoned and has become overgrown.
