In Waterdunen, everything comes together: brackish tidal nature, recreation, coastal defense, and an experimental garden for brackish cultivation. This beautiful nature area opened in 2022 and is still very much under development. Despite the area being newly opened, you can already see large quantities of birds and plants here. The brackish nature in Waterdunen has developed quickly. During your walk, you will encounter various birdwatching hides and viewing screens. From these bird hides, you can observe the birds up close without them seeing you. The name Waterdunen refers to the village and island of the same name that was swallowed during a storm surge in the 14th century.
