The tidal diver is a great example of water management. The seawater is controlled in and out here.
There are four concrete tubes in the tidal culvert. Three tubes let the seawater in and out of the nature reserve behind the dike twice a day. A fourth tube is connected to the polder water via the pumping station. This locks the excess water from the ditches to the Western Scheldt.
The dikes along the West-Zeeuws-Vlaamse coast have been strengthened since the beginning of this century. The coast is now resistant to the consequences of sea level rise and meets the latest criteria for flood safety.
