In 1859, the Brothers of Tilburg established the Sint Henricus Institute for the Blind in Grave. The blind received lessons and made baskets, brooms, and brushes. Due to the large influx of blind individuals, the institute had to be continuously expanded and faced a permanent shortage of funds. For blind girls, De Wijnberg was founded at Oliestraat in 1882 by the Sisters of Charity from Tilburg. In 1966, De Wijnberg moved to St. Elisabethstraat. The sisters left the convent in 1980, and the education had already been taken over by a foundation by then. In 1982, blind care was also fully taken over.
