The Ruin of Strijen is the only remnant of Strijen Castle, which dates back to 1288. The castle was surrounded by moats and had three floors, while the accompanying tower even had six. Another name for the castle is the Slotbosse Tower, thanks to the oak forest that used to surround the castle.
The castle was destroyed in the sixteenth century during the Eighty Years' War and has never been restored since. Today you can only see a corner of the 25-meter-high tower. The rest of the castle was demolished in the eighteenth century and was used by the Oosterhouters as a quarry. Nevertheless, the impressive ruin is worth a visit, whether combined with a nice walk in the area.
