The oldest remains of the church were found during excavations in 1948. These were postholes, which may have been created at the same time as the establishment of a burial site. It is believed that even before 1000, there was a three-nave wooden church without a tower here. This church was replaced after a fire by a stone church built on a foundation of field stones with a heavy tower on the west side. Today, the church is in use as a Roman Catholic church.
The first mention of the church appears in a charter from 956.
