The Letter Asparagus & Such

Description

In many restaurants in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, they are served in season: the white asparagus from Letter Asperges & Zo. The Letter is well-known in the wider region. On sixteen hectares of Zeeuws-Vlaamse soil, the ‘white gold’ is cultivated. Quite special, as there is not much suitable land for growing asparagus here. The sale of the asparagus is aimed at the hospitality industry and private individuals. Have you discovered them in the asparagus season on the shelves of AH in Hulst, Plus supermarkets in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, and Alvo in Kieldrecht? You can also get this popular seasonal vegetable directly from the Letter itself, at their own shop at home. Fresh from the land, self-sorted, unpeeled and peeled, in soup pieces and even asparagus from the freezer. They make it easy for you here. Everything you need for that delicious traditional asparagus meal is ready for you. So you don’t have to go to another address for peeled baby potatoes, back ham, ast, cooked ham, farmer’s butter, ready-made sauces, and fresh eggs. There is even special crockery for asparagus. A fan of asparagus soup? Then take home the fresh asparagus soup from Letter Asperges & Zo, available by the liter. By the way, in the shop you will find much more than just asparagus and everything that goes with it. Potatoes, onions, and strawberries fresh from their own cultivation, farmer’s cheese (also in pieces and with all kinds of herbs),  freshly made daily soup. Delicious regional products such as dry sausage from Axel, Bloomz tea, fun Zeeland Knot products. And beautiful gift packages with regional products, which can also be custom-made, like a Christmas package, for example. During your visit to the shop, you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with a treat on the cozy farm terrace. Or a glass of wine or a nice regional beer with a snack. The kids can keep themselves busy in the playground. With a trampoline, bouncy castle, and zip line! That ice cream between playtime will surely go down well.

“It is important to keep local products alive as much as possible”

You may have noticed, the products in the shop come from the area whenever possible. “As much as possible from Zeeuws soil ensures that we strengthen each other in the region. From the land to the customer, it doesn’t get fresher than that.” Letter Asperges & Zo is a true family business. Tom and Moniek de Letter started together with Tom's parents in 2001 with asparagus cultivation. The garage was converted into a shop. There was a demand for this juicy, sweet, tender vegetable and the business grew. In 2014, Tom and Moniek took over the business, and two years later, the old buildings on the estate made way for a new sorting shed, a shop, and housing for seasonal workers. The asparagus are sorted, peeled, and sold directly from the land. “Our dream came true. We are very proud of the fact that we started very small ‘with the sale of asparagus from buckets in our garage’ to what we have now achieved with our shop, terrace, garden, and arable farming. To our great pride, our two oldest sons have now joined the company and our third son also intends to continue this family business.”

Much more than asparagus

In addition to asparagus, the Letter family grows potatoes, onions, strawberries, carrots, grains, and beets. During the asparagus season, excursions are held at the farm and fun events are organized such as the Bouncy Castle Day, the Easter Brunch, Fries with Piet, and a Mussel Night. Additionally, the farm serves as a base for events organized by external parties, such as the Illuminated Tractor Tour. It is a great location for family celebrations and other festive gatherings. Yes, Letter Asperges & Zo is much more than just asparagus! Check for opening hours and events on the website  www.aspergesenzo.nl and be sure to follow their social media for all the latest news.
