The route starts from the Buitenomme car park in Rhenen and you cycle counterclockwise.
First of all, you go straight through the Utrechtse Heuvelrug a few times, with the climbs of the Koerheuvel, Defensieweg, Amerongseberg-Noord, Leersumse berg and the Ruiterberg.
In this part of the route you often cycle on quiet roads, but also a few times on cycle path along main roads to connect the quiet roads or some slightly busier roads.

Then the route goes into the floodplains of the Rhine, and you cycle through beautiful areas along nature reserves Sandenburg and Moersbergen. You cycle past castles Sandenburg, Lunenburg, Moersbergen (but this is hidden in the woods) and Sterkenburg. Then you cycle towards the catchment area of the Kromme Rijn. Then you go to the beautiful town of Wijk bij Duurstede, with its historic village center and castle. Via the Rijndijk you cycle to Amerongen, past Amerongen Castle. Then you take the ferry Amerongen - Eck en Wiel. Via the Rijnbandijk you cycle back to Rhenen.

The second part of the route is on quiet roads, and virtually no cycle path. On Sundays and public holidays with good weather it can be busy on the Rijndijk / Lekdijk.
