NORTH MILL

A watermill of more than 650 years oldIn the Noordmolen on the Twickel estate near Ambt Delden, oil is extracted from linseed (flax seed). This is done in three aisles (see photos above). The first course of operation is the bruising of the linseed, this is done on the kollergang. The koller stones (lace stones) bruise the linseed into flaxseed flour. The string strokes the splashing seed back under the coot stones. If the seed is sufficiently bruised, the miller lowers the runner and opens the slider, with which the flaxseed flour falls into the flour tray. The second course of operation is the heating of the flaxseed flour. The heating is done on the fist. This is a firebox built of sandstone covered with a steel plate. On top is a bottomless pan in which the linseed flour is heated to about 40 degrees. When the flour has warmed up, the miller slides the pan with the contents over the funnels, after which the flour falls into the two suspended bules (bags). The third course of action is the minting of oil. This oil beating takes place on the press bench (percussion bank). The buls are placed here between a press board and then placed in the press bench. By means of a falling slaghei we knock the chisel down, which puts pressure on the flaxseed flour. This becomes liquid so that the oil is squeezed out of the bulbul. During opening hours, the mill is in operation and oil is minted. The millers provide text and explanations about, among other things, the business corridors described above.
