This trekking in Annapurna area it is a journey of 9 days (stages).
It follows several stages of the Annapurna circuit , but there is an attempt to climb Thapa peak (6012m) in Marpha, but ends up in Bathasa Danda (4900m) due to bad weather. By the way , it was originally planned to climb Thapa Peak via the Dhaulagiri Circuit from Beni (west side) , but before we left we already knew that it was impossible due to heavy snowfall on a glacier. Hence the alternative attempt on the Annapurna circuit (east side).
The route almost continuously follows the Kali Gandaki river valley from Kagbeni (2800 m) to Beni (850 m) - 80 km. Only the day in Muktinath and the 3 days in Bathasa Danda are an exception.
At that time (2006) it was not possible to drive a car in this valley . Everything was done on foot and by donkey. Now there is an all-terrain road used by jeeps and buses. On the one hand, the associated possibilities will affect comfort , but on the other hand, the typical Patteland life will also disappear . Despite this modernization, the impressive nature of this longest, widest and deepest valley in the world remains impressive.
The Kali Gandaki Trek used to be one of the most famous treks in the world.
