Alvaiázere is a Portuguese parish of the municipality of Alvaiázere, with an area of 32.32 km² and 1,818 inhabitants. Density: 56.3 inhab/km².
Alvaiázere, town and municipality, owes its name to the Arabs. In fact, when they invaded the Iberian Peninsula in the year 711, they seized the territory of present-day Alvaiázere, which they called Al-Bai-Zir or Alva-Varze, according to different opinions. Others link the town's name to the term Al-Baiaz, which means "the falconer," so Alvaiázere would have originally meant "the lands of the falconer."
