Praia de Mira is located on the Atlantic Ocean and near a downstream lagoon. It is the seaside resort of the municipality, which is 7 km away from its county seat, Mira.
Since 1812, Praia de Mira has been mentioned as a place with permanent residences for local fishermen. Until the 1960s, most of the original traditional wooden structures were replaced by today's stone houses, except for the chapel and the current museum of the place.
