Traditional ovens for pilgrims - Labruja

At the Santuário do Senhor do Socorro in Labruja there are 7 traditional ovens ( "Forno do Povo" (people's oven) ) that played an important role in the pilgrimage tradition.

The stone ovens were once used by pilgrims to roast goat and chicken and bake bread during their journey. They are evidence of the self-sufficient lifestyle of pilgrims and the sense of community along the way.

These ovens are not only functional baking places, but also symbols of community and hospitality. They bear witness to the tradition of supporting pilgrims and travelers on their journey to Santiago de Compostela . Although some of these ovens are still in use, they are often also preserved as cultural heritage and a reminder of the past.

In the area surrounding the sanctuary there is a traditional wood-fired oven where bread is baked weekly . This oven is located on a nearby site that is open to visitors and campers.
