The Palais Brongniart, commissioned by Napoleon, owes its name to architect Alexandre Théodore Brongniart (1808-1825). Inaugurated on November 4, 1826, it was the headquarters of the Paris Stock Exchange for almost one hundred and fifty years. Abandoned by stockbrokers for many years, the exchange ceased trading in 1987. Today, the site features a gallery dedicated to the history of the Bourse. Designed by A. Brongniart, the Palais has unfortunately not been open to the public since 2008.
