Nevele ya era un pueblo en tiempos de la Batalla de los Espolones de Oro, lo que indica actividades comerciales tempranas. El Señor de Nevele vivía en el centro de Nevele en un castillo amurallado cerca de la iglesia.
A causa de la violencia de la guerra en 1381, el castillo, la iglesia y la mayoría de las casas de Nevele fueron destruidas. Después de esta devastación, el castillo fue reconstruido solo parcialmente en forma de una torre cuadrada, de la cual aún queda un fragmento visible (Cyriel Buyssestraat 6).
