El bisbita arbóreo es un pájaro poco llamativo que en apariencia poco se diferencia de otros bisbitas como el bisbita pradera, pero tiene un patrón de rayas algo más fuerte. Sin embargo, el pájaro se reconoce mejor por su canto, que se presenta desde una posición alta o durante un vuelo de canto. El canto consiste en una vibración fuerte y termina con tsia, tsia, tsia.
A diferencia de los bisbitas pradera, los bisbitas arbóreos se encuentran principalmente en áreas con árboles. El vuelo de canto generalmente comienza y termina también en un árbol en lugar de en el suelo. Al igual que otros bisbitas, el bisbita arbóreo construye su nido bien escondido en el suelo.
