El Petit Séminaire, uno de los colegios más antiguos de Bélgica, abrió sus puertas en este lugar en 1806. Durante la guerra, los edificios hicieron las veces de hospital de campaña alemán.

Poco después de la fecha prevista para el año escolar, los edificios sirvieron para albergar soldados. Al principio, se trataba de soldados aliados, pero muy pronto los edificios escolares se convirtieron en un hospital de campaña alemán.
La enseñanza en tiempos de guerra se hizo posible
No solo el Petit Séminaire fue utilizado por el ocupante alemán. Todos los conventos de Roulers fueron requisados, al igual que el hospital. Igualmente, las numerosas otras escuelas que contaba la ciudad fueron requisadas.
