Esta iglesia parroquial neogótica (1871-1875) se construyó en una comunidad pesquera en fuerte crecimiento, como reemplazo de la iglesia de estilo románico temprano en el sur de Heist (Koudekerke). En la iglesia se presta especial atención a la salvación (de almas) de los (antiguos) pescadores y sus familias, así como a la colección de imágenes y reliquias de San Antonio Abad.
