Deze neogotische parochiekerk (1871-1875) werd gebouwd in een toen sterk groeiende vissersgemeenschap, als vervanging van de vroeggotische kerk in het zuiden van Heist (Koudekerke). In de kerk gaat er bijzondere aandacht naar het (zielen)heil van de (voormalige) vissers en hun families, en naar de collectie Sint-Antonius Abt-beelden en -relicten.
