La oficina del municipio de Anderlecht de 1879 está aquí en la plaza, de espaldas a… Anderlecht. Al construir el edificio en estilo neorenacentista flamenco, se prefiere el próspero barrio de Kuregem al entonces rural centro de Anderlecht.
La ubicación favorable de Kuregem, cerca de la ciudad de Bruselas, el canal y los ferrocarriles, propicia en el siglo XIX un rápido desarrollo. También hace que el barrio sea atractivo para los numerosos flamencos que se trasladan del campo a la ciudad. Así también el ciclista profesional René Vermandel de Zelzate, ganador de los Seis Días de Bruselas en 1927, que explota la cervecería La Bécasse en el número 4. Hasta los años 70, este es el local del club aún existente Cureghem Sportief.
