La mayor parte del Begijnhofpark solía pertenecer a los jardines de la Abadía de Groeninge y al hogar de descanso Sint-Vincentius. Los últimos habitantes de la Abadía de Groeninge fueron las Claras Pobres.
El parque sigue estando completamente rodeado de murallas, con tres diferentes caminos de acceso. De la estructura original del parque solo quedan la antigua muralla divisoria con sus tres puertas de ladrillo, una pequeña capilla y algunos árboles valiosos.
El parque también sirve como escenario para numerosas actividades al aire libre y es la parada ideal para un momento de descanso, un picnic o para dejar que los niños corran.
En medio de toda esta belleza, Abby abrió sus puertas, el más reciente sitio de exposiciones para arte visual.
